Corian® Solid Surfaces DuPont™ Corian® has been around since the 1960s and it’s still one of the most widely specified solid surfaces in the world. It’s acrylic-based, solid all the way through and it can be thermoformed into curves and complex shapes without losing performance. Add invisible joins, a non-porous surface and over 100 colours, and it’s easy to see why it suits such a wide range of projects, from domestic kitchens to large commercial fit-outs. Corian® is one of the materials we work with most. We’ve been fabricating and installing it for decades, and we’re a Quality Network Partner, which means we’re recognised by DuPont™ as a fabricator who meets their quality standards. For you, that means straightforward answers, accurate quotes and surfaces fabricated and fitted properly first time. What makes Corian® a good choice? It can be shaped into almost anything Corian® can be thermoformed – heated and shaped into curves and three-dimensional shapes. That opens up a lot of design possibilities: curved reception desks, bar fronts with integrated features and bespoke furniture pieces. If the brief goes beyond a flat surface, Corian® can handle it. The joins disappear Corian® sheets bond together with virtually invisible seams, so the surface looks continuous. No lines or joins breaking up the finish. It looks sleek and it matters for hygiene, since there’s nowhere for dirt to collect. It won’t harbour bacteria Corian® is non-porous, so liquids and bacteria can’t get into the surface. Spills wipe away cleanly and it holds up well to regular disinfection. It’s widely used in healthcare settings, commercial kitchens and laboratories for exactly this reason. Over 100 colours The range covers clean whites, warm neutrals, deep tones, aggregates, terrazzo-inspired finishes and marble-effect options. There are also translucent colours that work with backlighting – useful for reception desks, bar fronts or feature walls where lighting is part of the design. It lasts – and if it gets damaged, it can be repaired Corian® is resistant to scratches and everyday impact. If damage does occur, a trained fabricator can usually sand and buff the surface back on-site. Because the colour runs through the full thickness of the material, repairs blend in properly. It works outdoors too Corian® performs well outdoors. It’s UV stable and handles whatever the weather throws at it – we used it on the exterior cladding at St Martin’s Courtyard in Covent Garden for exactly that reason. The project involved custom thermoformed moulds we designed ourselves, and it was one of the first exterior cladding projects of its kind in the UK. Most design briefs are covered. If lighting is part of the design, there are translucent options that let light pass through the material, which opens up unique possibilities for reception desks, bar fronts and feature walls. About DFMK FAQs What is Corian® made of? It’s an acrylic-based solid surface, made of roughly one-third DuPont™ acrylic polymer and two-thirds natural minerals (aluminium trihydrate). It’s solid throughout, not a coating or laminate. That’s why it can be repaired and why the colour stays consistent if the surface gets scratched or worn. What's the difference between Corian® and other solid surfaces? Corian® is the original acrylic solid surface – DuPont™ invented the category in the 1960s – and it’s still the most widely specified solid surface globally. Architects and specifiers know it well, the colour range is one of the broadest available, and it’s particularly regarded for on-site repairability. Other surfaces in our range have their own strengths. We’re happy to talk through what’s right for your project. Can Corian® be used outdoors? Yes. It holds its colour and surface integrity outdoors over time, which is why it often gets used for building facades and exterior cladding rather than just interior work. Is Corian® heat resistant? It handles everyday heat fine. Prolonged direct contact with very hot items – pans straight off the hob, for instance – can cause damage, so trivets and hot pads are worth using. That’s standard practice with most quality worktop materials. Our other materials
