For projects involving curves that need thermoforming or exterior cladding, an acrylic solid surface such as DuPont Corian® may be better suited. Benefits of Montelli® solid surface Easy to clean Montelli is non-porous, so everyday spills aren’t absorbed into the surface. It resists many common household stains and can be cleaned using the manufacturer’s recommended products. Inconspicuous joints Separate sheets can be joined and finished to create an inconspicuous seam. This allows larger surfaces to be fabricated beyond the dimensions of an individual sheet. The colour and pattern need to be considered when planning joints, particularly with veined designs. Repairable surfaces Scratches and other damage can often be repaired by a professional. The appropriate repair depends on the damage, so we’d assess the surface before recommending any work. Fabricated to your design Montelli can be cut to size and worked with tools used in solid surface fabrication. Routing and engraving allow further detail, including colour inlays. Practical limits Montelli can’t be thermoformed. A rounded outline cut from a flat sheet is possible, but designs that require the sheet itself to bend need another material. It’s intended for interiors. Hot pans and heat-generating appliances also need a trivet or heat protection pad, as excessive or prolonged heat can damage the surface. Find out about our solid surface fabrication service FAQs What is Montelli made of? Montelli is made from polyester resin, mineral filler and pigments. It’s silica-free. Can Montelli be thermoformed? No. Montelli can be cut but it can’t be heated and bent into shape like an acrylic solid surface. Can Montelli be used outdoors? Montelli isn’t recommended for outdoor applications. If your project involves exterior surfaces, we can advise on other materials. How do you clean Montelli? For routine cleaning, DuPont recommends a damp cloth with a mild cream cleanser or household degreaser. Rinse and dry the surface after cleaning, and follow its guidance for stubborn stains. Use a chopping board when preparing food and protect the surface from hot pans. Strong chemicals can cause damage. Can damaged Montelli be repaired? Many types of damage can be repaired on site by a professional. The condition of the surface and extent of the damage determine what’s possible. What warranty does Montelli have? DuPont provides a 10-year limited product warranty covering manufacturing defects in Montelli sheets, subject to its terms.
