2024 has been a year of collaboration and progress for DFMK. While it hasn’t been without its challenges, we’ve built strong momentum throughout the year, with an especially busy and successful second half. Throughout it all, our team’s expertise and dedication to quality have remained constant. Reflecting on the year, Stuart Daniels, Sales Director, shares: “We’ve put together a great team, and this year’s successes are a testament to their dedication and expertise.”

A year of diverse projects

At DFMK, we love seeing how our premium acrylic surfaces can transform a space. We’ve had the chance to work on some fantastic projects this year, from creating sleek healthcare environments in Harley Street to crafting innovative retail and contract kitchens.

Our portfolio has grown in exciting ways throughout 2024 – whether we’re designing workstations that make a library more functional, creating eye-catching bar tops for a theatre or installing shower trays and wall cladding that look as good as they perform. Each project brings its own unique challenges, but our ability to tackle even the most complex designs sets us apart. As Stuart notes, “DFMK is becoming a trusted manufacturer and a preferred choice for solid surface works.”

Technical expertise

As approved fabricators for leading solid surface brands including Corian, HIMACS, Staron, Hanex and Krion, we bring proven expertise to every project. “At DFMK, we thrive on solving the most complex challenges, and that’s a reflection of our team’s technical precision and problem-solving skills,” Stuart says.

Our team’s confidence in handling projects with high levels of technical precision means we can take on the most complicated designs.  Whether working with thermoforming for curved surfaces, integrating advanced technology or creating seamless joins, our team’s skills mean we deliver exceptional results every time.

Spotlight on success: Biotech reception project

One standout project this year was our collaboration with Bespoke Wizard to create a reception desk for an international biotech company. The brief called for more than just a standard desk – we needed to deliver a design that would make an impact in their entrance space while also solving some complex technical challenges.

The finished desk, created in Glacier White Corian, integrated large flat screens for corporate branding while keeping the clean, monolithic look the client wanted. Despite working to tight deadlines, our team’s expertise and quick response times meant everything came together smoothly. Robin Dussek of Bespoke Wizard said we were “a joy to work with,” and the final result exceeded expectations.

We’re well-versed in a wide range of innovative materials at DFMK, thanks to over 40 years of combined experience in fabricating and fitting premium solid surfaces. Today, in the next instalment of our series of guides, we’re focusing on Staron – a great solid surface option that offers a combination of durability, design flexibility and aesthetic appeal. Here’s everything you need to know about Staron.

What is Staron?

Staron is a solid surface material developed by Lotte Chemical. Since it was first introduced to the market in 1992, it has become a popular choice for various residential and commercial applications.

What is Staron made of?

Staron is made of a blend of natural minerals and acrylic, which offers the durability of stone alongside impressive flexibility. It comprises a silica-free mineral refined from bauxite, blended with pure acrylic resin. The result is a high-performing, safe solid surface that is long-lasting and easy to maintain.

Staron’s key features explained

Staron boasts several features that make it a great option for various projects:

  • Design flexibility: Staron can be thermoformed into different shapes. Thermoforming is the process of using heat, vacuum and pressure to mould a sheet of acrylic into a specific 3D shape. Through this process, you can create unique shapes and curves that aren’t possible with natural materials.

  • Seamless appearance: Another characteristic of Staron is its ability to join two separate sections with undetectable joints. This boosts both the look and hygienic properties of the surface.

  • Hygienic: Staron is non-porous and hygienic, perfect for areas where hygiene is important, like healthcare environments. It also has an NSF-51 food-safe certification, making it great for use in food preparation areas.

  • Durable: Staron has been designed to withstand daily use. It is 100% waterproof and flame and impact-resistant. In the event of damage, it can often be sanded and restored to its original condition.

  • Colour: Staron offers an impressive selection of colours and patterns, ranging from natural patterns to more vibrant finishes, so there’s something to suit every design preference.

  • Easy maintenance: Staron is simple to look after and clean. It’s non-porous, so doesn’t absorb liquids. This makes it very stain-resistant and means it maintains its appearance over time.

  • Peace of mind: Staron comes with a 10 year limited warranty on each installation.

Applications of Staron

Staron is a versatile material that can be used in many different ways. Here are the most popular:

Kitchen worktops: Staron can be used for durable kitchen surfaces with integrated sinks and splashbacks.

Bathroom surfaces: Staron’s non-porous, hygienic nature makes it a great option for bathroom countertops and even shower walls.

Commercial spaces: Staron is often used in retail, hospitality and healthcare settings, with uses ranging from reception desks to wall cladding.

Custom furniture: Because Staron can be thermoformed, it’s possible to use it to create uniquely shaped, bespoke furniture pieces.

Artificial stone worktops have made headlines in recent weeks over the silicosis risk linked to their manufacture. Last year, the first UK case of silicosis was identified and, since then, doctors have voiced concerns due to a rise in cases linked to the cutting of artificial stone.

Silica is a core component of engineered stone. When engineered stone is cut and sanded, the dust produced poses a risk to operatives when inhaled. It is only during fabrication and installation there is a risk, and engineered stone itself is not hazardous.

Amidst the reporting of the health risks to fabricators, there has been some misunderstanding between solid surfaces and engineered stone. Solid surfaces are silica-free and do not present the same risk to health as artificial engineered stone, such as quartz.

DFMK wants to assure customers that none of the surfaces we fabricate contain silica. Solid surfaces and engineered stone have distinct chemical compositions, with solid surfaces being silica-free and made with a blend of acrylic and natural minerals.

That’s not to say we don’t take the welfare of our employees seriously, and DFMK invest considerably into the management of health and safety. We have a comprehensive safety management system audited by an external body annually and we have achieved Advanced accreditation with CHAS.

Despite the relatively low risks associated with dust from acrylic solid surfaces, we have taken precautions to protect our operatives and others from harm. We have risk-assessed activities alongside guidance from the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) produced by the material manufacturers.

Our health and safety controls include:

  1. Templating and factory preparation – most components can be prepared in our factory using accurate laser templating, reducing the need for cutting and sanding at customers’ sites.
  2. CNC machines – we can automatically cut and shape solid surface materials without the need for an operator in the cutting area. CNC machines are fitted with dust extraction, to control the dust at the source.
  3. Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV systems) – all sanders and saws are fitted with M-Class dust extractors that suck the dust away as it is produced.
  4. Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) – our operatives are provided with air pressure and full face masks to reduce the risk of dusk inhalation.
  5. Clearing dust using vacuum cleaners – residual dust is cleared up using a vacuum cleaner and not brushed to limit dust becoming airborne again.

With engineered stone making headlines to rightly highlight the terrible risk of silicosis, it was important to clarify our position. DFMK takes the safety of its employees and customers incredibly seriously, which is why we will never work with materials containing silica.

While fabricating acrylic surfaces is not associated with silicosis, it is still our duty to mitigate any risk to our operatives. We will continue to adhere to the recommended health and safety standards, and have our operations regularly audited by an external body to ensure compliance.

We want to encourage DFMK customers who may have concerns surrounding the recent reports to talk to us directly. Our team are more than happy to discuss our safety measures and reassure that there is no silica present at our factory or as part of our projects.

What is Krion?

Krion is an advanced solid surface material developed by Krion Porcelanosa. It’s known for its quality and durability, as well as being warm to the touch with some colours from the range having a similar appearance to natural stone. It has quickly become a favourite surface material among architects, designers and homeowners.

What is Krion made of?

Krion is made of a blend of two-thirds natural minerals and high-performance resins. This composition and high mineral content gives Krion fantastic durability and design flexibility.

The advantages of Krion

Unparalleled whiteness: Krion has an impressive 99.8% whiteness level and a high refraction index. This creates an incredibly bright and pure appearance that’s unique among solid surfaces. It’s perfect for modern, minimalist designs or environments where a clean and pristine look is needed, like healthcare settings.

Durability: Krion can withstand harsh environments, including limited exposure to steam, water and icy conditions. This makes it an excellent choice for both interior and exterior applications.

Fire resistance: With a high fire rating, Krion is a safe choice for projects where fire safety is a top priority. It has a high resistance to flames and doesn’t emit toxic fumes when exposed to fire.

UV resistance: Krion is also highly resistant to deterioration from UV rays. This helps it maintain its appearance over time without yellowing or degrading.

Design flexibility: Krion can be thermoformed and shaped into intricate designs, offering a great amount of options for curves and unique shapes.

Seamless joins: Krion can be seamlessly joined to create a smooth, continuous surface with no detectable joints. This not only boosts its aesthetic appeal, but enhances hygiene too.

Hygienic properties: The non-porous nature of Krion makes it hygienic and easy to clean, ideal for environments where cleanliness is key. It’s resistant to bacteria and mould, making it a great choice for healthcare environments, laboratories, kitchens and bathrooms.

Sustainability: Krion is designed with sustainability in mind. It is made from natural, recyclable materials, appealing to eco-conscious designers and homeowners. Its long lifespan also contributes to less waste over time.

Krion kitchen worktops: Krion is durable and resistant to stains, bacteria and heat, making it an excellent choice for a kitchen surface.

Krion bathroom countertops: Its resistance to water and easy maintenance makes Krion perfect for bathrooms.

Wall cladding: With a variety of colours and textures available, Krion can be used to create sleek and seamless wall panels or intricate, textured surfaces.

Furniture: From tables to reception desks, Krion can be thermoformed into bespoke furniture pieces.

Commercial projects: Krion is ideal for large-scale projects in hospitality, healthcare and retail environments.

Krion vs competitors

How does Krion compare to other solid surfaces? While materials like Corian and quartz are popular options, Krion does offer some unique advantages:

Krion vs Corian: While both are high-quality solid surfaces, Krion offers superior whiteness and UV resistance.

Krion vs quartz: Krion offers more design flexibility through thermoforming, while quartz typically is available in a slab format.  This means the options for customisation are much more limited with quartz.

Krion vs granite: Unlike granite, Krion is non-porous and doesn’t require sealing, making it more hygienic and easier to maintain. As it is a natural stone that has to be cut from slabs, granite doesn’t offer the same flexibility in shape.

Installation and maintenance of Krion

To guarantee the best results, we would recommend reaching out to a skilled professional to install Krion. At DFMK, our experienced team has years of experience in Krion fabrication and installation.

Krion is very straightforward to clean. Regular maintenance with mild soap and water is usually more than enough to keep the surface looking its best. For tougher stains, specific solid surface cleaners are available. Unlike natural stone surfaces, Krion doesn’t need sealing, which saves time and money on maintenance.

In the unlikely event of damage, Krion can often be repaired and restored to its original appearance.

Why choose Krion for your next project?

Krion’s combination of durability, design flexibility and easy maintenance makes it a great choice for a wide range of projects. Whether you’re renovating a kitchen, designing a commercial space or looking for a bespoke piece of furniture, Krion offers both the performance and aesthetics to bring your vision to life.

At DFMK, we’re passionate about helping our customers achieve stunning results with premium materials like Krion. Our expertise in fabrication and installation ensures that your Krion surfaces will look great and perform exceptionally for years to come.

Solid surfaces such as HI-Macs by LG, Corian® by DuPont, Krion by Porcelanosa, are firm favourites within premium and luxury kitchen and bathroom designs. They have the visual appeal of natural stone, while being extremely hardwearing, hygienic and easy to clean.

People often ask how to clean their solid surface, worrying they may harm the surface finish if handled improperly. However, it’s very simple to clean and care for a solid surface. Here’s what you need to know about keeping a solid surface worktop in its prime.

How to care for and clean solid surfaces: the basics

Spray bottle and cloth

What cleaning products can you use on a solid surface?

A daily cleaning routine helps to prevent dirt build-up and makes everyday spills easier to clean. Use warm soapy water or a mild surface spray to clean the solid surface countertops. Remove the excess with a microfibre cloth, rinse with water and then dry.

Do solid surface worktops stain?

Solid surfaces like Corian, Krion, and HI-MACS are non-porous, meaning they don’t absorb spills or stains like other surfaces. However, it’s still important to handle spills promptly as residues from substances like wine, coffee and oil can leave stubborn stains that may require a different type of cleaning.

How to remove a stain from a solid surface

Should a stain happen, it’s possible to remove with the right techniques. For common stains like coffee, wine, and oil, act quickly. Begin by gently blotting the spill with a clean, damp cloth to absorb as much of the substance as possible.

Then, if necessary, use a mild abrasive cleaning pad along with a mild abrasive product. Always clean using a circular motion and towel dry. For stubborn stains, use a specialised stain remover designed for your specific solid surface material. It’s a good idea to test any new cleaning products on a small, inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn’t cause damage.

Preventing damage to a solid surface worktop

It’s difficult to damage a solid surface worktop but it can happen.

What should you NOT do on solid surface countertops?

  • Use sharp objects without using cutting boards and trivets
  • Place hot items like pans directly on the surface
  • Use harsh chemicals like concentrated bleach and ammonia-based cleaners

Although prevention is the best policy, the beauty of solid surfaces is that they are repairable. Should a stain, crack or scratch happen, it is possible to repair it and preserve the surface finish.

Repairing damage to a solid surface

Stubborn stains, scratches, and cracks can be repaired, restoring the surface to its original smoothness and shine. However, in these cases, it is best to get in touch with your surface provider as they need expert attention and specialist equipment.

Solid surface technicians repair your surface by cutting away the damaged portion. They replace it with a patch of colour matched solid surface which is seamlessly blended in, leaving your kitchen or bathroom surface looking as good as new.

At DFMK, we work with trade, commercial clients and domestic customers to create practical, beautiful worksurfaces using leading solid surfaces.

At DFMK, our 40+ years of experience mean we have an unparalleled understanding of premium surfaces. We pride ourselves on our ability to match projects with the ideal surface solutions that guarantee both functionality and aesthetic appeal. With that in mind, today we are focusing on the original solid surface – and the first of its kind – Corian.

What is Corian?

Corian is a premium solid surface material developed by DuPont, a company with a long history of innovation. DuPont created Corian in the 1960s; then, it was completely revolutionary as a surface material, perfectly blending style and function for a multitude of surface applications. Thanks to this, it quickly gained recognition and popularity around the world. Its versatility, durability and aesthetic appeal mean that to this day, it’s recognised by designers, architects and homeowners alike as a high-performance surface solution.

What is Corian made of?

Corian is made from a blend of acrylic polymer, natural minerals and pigments. It’s formulated to achieve a seamless and durable surface material. Here’s a closer look at the key components of Corian:

  • Natural minerals
Corian mainly consists of natural minerals, which make up two-thirds of its composition. Alumina trihydrate (ATH), a material derived from bauxite ore, is a key component in Corian. It provides it with its durable nature and fire-resistant properties. The raw natural mineral is refined and processed to prepare it for use in Corian.

  • Acrylic polymer
Acrylic polymer is blended with the natural minerals to serve as a binding agent. This enhances the durability of Corian and also allows it to be fabricated, shaped and moulded into a number of different designs and forms.

  • Pigments
Pigments are added to the blend for visual appeal. This allows for a wide range of colour options, from muted neutrals to bold and vibrant hues, helping Corian cater to a diverse range of design preferences.

The advantages of Corian

With its blend of style and function, Corian has earned its place as a top choice in the industry. Here are just some of the advantages of Corian that make it a great choice for a premium solid surface.

Design versatility

Corian offers almost unlimited design flexibility and can be seamlessly used in many applications. From sleek modern countertops to curved, sculptured surfaces, Corian can be shaped and moulded to bring your vision to life and allows for custom designs that cannot be achieved with traditional surfaces.

Seamless appearance

One of the standout features of Corian is its smooth and seamless appearance, with no visible joints. This not only gives it a sleek and sophisticated finish, but also promotes cleanliness and hygiene. This makes Corian a great choice for spaces where hygiene is important, like bathrooms and kitchens.

Durability

Corian is known to be incredibly durable and resistant to wear and tear. It can withstand regular, daily use without compromising on performance and looks. It is resistant to scratches and stains without the need for regular complex maintenance.

There’s an enormous range of finishes available when using Corian, thanks to its composition using pigment to create a desired aesthetic. This extensive palette of colours and finishes means it can be used to create surfaces ranging from sleek and minimalist to bold and dramatic. It also means it can effortlessly replicate more traditional materials, like polished marble or a contemporary concrete-inspired texture – all with a huge variety of colours to choose from.

Easy to maintain

Corian’s non-porous properties prevent the growth of bacteria and make it both hygienic and easy to maintain. It requires very little ongoing maintenance other than cleaning with a mild soap and water solution, making it perfect for high-traffic commercial areas or busy households. Commercially available solid surface cleaners are also available for removing dirt and residue.

The disadvantages of Corian

While Corian boasts numerous great advantages, it’s important to note the potential limitations if you’re considering it as your surface of choice.

  • Corian can be susceptible to heat damage when exposed to high temperatures for a prolonged period of time. You should use trivets or hot pads to protect it and not place hot pans directly onto the surface.
  • While it’s very durable, Corian can be vulnerable to scratches. Very sharp or abrasive objects can leave marks on the surface if proper care is not taken. Minor scratches can usually be buffed out, however.
  • Corian is resistant to many household chemicals, but strong acids or solvents can cause damage. It’s important to clean up spills quickly and avoid using very harsh chemical cleaners.
  • Corian can have a higher upfront cost compared to alternative worktop materials. However, many find that the durability and low maintenance offset this initial cost in the long term.

More commonly asked questions about Corian

They are both made from a blend of high-performance resins combined with crushed and refined natural minerals. They are also both available at a similar cost. While they’re similar, they do have a few differences.

  • Composition: Corian is made from acrylic polymer, natural minerals including alumina trihydrate, and pigments. Quartz is composed of natural quartz combined with resins and pigments.
  • Durability: Quartz is harder than Corian, so it’s slightly less prone to scratching.
  • Flexibility: Corian is more flexible than Quartz, so it can be thermoformed and moulded to a desired shape.
  • Repairs: Corian is easier to repair than Quartz, and minor scratches can often be polished out thanks to its slightly softer form.
  • UV resistance: Corian is more resistant to UV than Quartz, making it a better choice for using outdoors or in direct sunlight.

What colours is Corian available in?

Corian is available in a wide range of colours, shades and finishes to suit a number of different design preferences. Popular colours range from neutrals like white, cream, grey and beige to bright, eye-catching colours. It can also be created in unique finishes that replicate the look of natural materials like marble or granite. With such a wide variety of colours available, there are many options for customisation when using Corian.

We hope this taught you more about Corian and its many benefits. At DFMK, we work with trade, commercial clients and domestic customers to create practical, beautiful solutions using acrylic solid surfaces like Corian. This year has been an exciting year for DFMK. We’ve been involved with some exciting projects, consistently raised the bar for excellence when it comes to our customers, and also appointed a new Sales Director, Stuart Daniels.

With a career spanning over 30 years and a strong background in the surface industry, Stuart brings an incredible wealth of experience to the business. To round off the year, we chatted to Stuart about the standout projects of 2023, and the expertise and commitment to customers that define DFMK’s approach.

Hi Stuart. Firstly, can you tell us a little about your role at DFMK.

This year, I was appointed as Sales Director of DFMK. I’ve been in the worksurface business for over 30 years after selling my first set of Corian worktops in 1989. My role is to implement the company’s Sales and Marketing strategy and to increase turnover profitably.

Were there any standout projects for DFMK in 2023?

There are many projects we completed in 2023 below are three of the highlights:

  • DFMK were part of an exciting project at Wembley Stadium where we installed the reception counters in the prestigious Bobby Moore suite. We also created press box counters which are used for analysing the matches being played.

  • We completed a job for Watches of Switzerland, the UK’s largest luxury watch retailer. The project was for shop front cladding at the showroom store in Westfield Stratford City, London. Westfield is one of the largest shopping centres in the UK with a huge amount of footfall, so the shop front needed to be eye-catching and reflect the premium nature of the brand – the perfect fit for our surfaces.

  • We carried out another large exterior wall cladding project, using 120 sheets for a cantilever canopy in Cambridge. Cladding projects are an important part of the work we carry out at DFMK, and the acrylic solid surfaces we offer guarantee fantastic flexibility and durability.

In a competitive market, what do you think makes DFMK stand out?

At DFMK, we’re committed to customer satisfaction, and that’s at the forefront of everything we do. We supply and install a variety of high-quality solid surface materials, and always offer the most competitive solutions possible to the enquiries we are asked to price. We always return quotations in a time-efficient manner so that we don’t keep potential customers waiting. Finally, our installations are consistently right first time, which helps ensure confidence for repeat business.

Ultimately, we’re passionate about what we do, and with 40 years of combined experience in fabricating and fitting across the business, we ensure both quality and accuracy on every project – from design to delivery.

What is coming up for DFMK in 2024?

Throughout 2024 DFMK will continue to promote the business in the market segments that were defined and agreed upon in our business marketing strategy. These include washrooms, healthcare, kitchens and bespoke commercial applications. We’re looking forward to letting more people know about the innovative surface solutions available in these markets.

Ultimately, our aim for 2024 is to increase turnover for the business and work closer with our strategic partners in each segment.  As a business, we’re looking forward to more successes over the year ahead.

We’d like to thank all of our valued customers for your support over the past year. We hope everyone has a relaxed festive break and is looking forward to everything that 2024 has to offer. What is HIMACS?

HIMACS is a ‘new generation’ acrylic solid surface material made of natural minerals blended with acrylic polymer and pigments. Since it was first introduced to the market in 1995, HIMACS has captured the imaginations of those in the industry thanks to its incredible design and functionality possibilities.

HIMACS was developed by LG Hausys (today known as LX Hausys), a subsidiary of the LG Group, to compete with popular solid surfaces like Corian. It was created as a response to the growing demand for solid surfaces that were both practical and visually appealing. Since then, HIMACS has gained popularity throughout the international market thanks to its ability to meet the diverse needs of designers, architects and homeowners alike.

Here at DFMK, we’ve worked with HIMACS for a long time and have a huge appreciation for the material. It’s perfect for delivering a smooth, seamless surface that not only looks great, it’s also long-lasting. Available in a vibrant range of beautiful colours and finishes, it has been designed with flexibility in mind – making it perfect for standing out in the world of design.

What are the benefits of HIMACS?

HIMACS offers a range of benefits that make it a great choice for interior spaces, as well as various design and construction projects. Here are some key benefits:

  • It’s versatile
HIMACS can be thermoformed (heated and shaped) into a variety of different shapes and designs. This makes it an ideal choice for creative projects, whether in a residential or commercial.
  • Seamless joints
A stand-out feature of HIMACS is that it offers a completely seamless finish, with no visible joins or seams. This makes the surface not only visually appealing but also enhances hygiene.
  • Non-porous and hygienic
HIMACS is non-porous, easy to clean and resistant to staining. Spills can easily be wiped away, making it a great choice for kitchen and bathroom surfaces, as well as use in healthcare environments.

  • Design flexibility
HIMACS is known for boasting an extensive and vibrant range of colours, patterns and finishes. Whether you’re looking for something classic or need a surface to stand out, there’s an option for every design aesthetic.
  • Easy maintenance
HIMACS is straightforward to clean and maintain, with no special maintenance or sealing required. As it is non-porous, many everyday spills sit on the surface and can be easily wiped away. In most cases, warm soapy water is all that’s needed to maintain HIMACS’ pristine look.
  • Warranty for full peace of mind
As an authorised HIMACS Quality Club Member, when you come to us for your HIMACS surfaces you’ll not only get the best quality installation, you’ll also get an industry-leading 15-year guarantee on the installation.
  • Diverse applications
HIMACS can be used on a wide range of applications and projects, including kitchen countertops (as well as integrated sinks and backsplashes), bathrooms, wall cladding and architectural façades, reception desks, retail displays, healthcare and medical settings, and more.

What is HIMACS made of?

HIMACS is made using a combination of acrylic polymer resins, natural minerals and pigments.

  1. Acrylic polymer is a hybrid acrylic-based material known for its durability and easy maintenance, as well as its ability to be moulded into different shapes using thermoforming.
  2. Natural minerals are used to enhance the surface’s appearance and performance. They give HIMACS its solid, stone-like feel.
  3. Pigments are added to the blend to create different colour and pattern options. The pigments are blended in thoroughly with the acrylic and minerals to ensure a natural-looking, consistent appearance.

These key components come together to create a surface that not only looks the part but is also durable, hygienic and suitable for a range of different projects.

How much do HIMACS worktops cost?

The cost of a HIMACS worktop can vary widely depending on several factors like the type of product, colour and pattern, size and the complexity of the installation. It’s always best to reach out to your chosen supplier or fabricator for an up-to-date and accurate price. You can request a quote from us here.

How to clean HIMACS worktops

Cleaning a HIMACS worktop is a simple process thanks to its durability and non-porous finish. Most spills can be wiped straight up, and soapy water is all that’s usually needed for routine cleaning. More stubborn marks or dried-on stains can usually be removed using a mild detergent and soft cloth. This should not be left in contact with the surface for more than five minutes and should always be thoroughly rinsed and dried.

Is HIMACS recyclable?

Yes, HIMACS is considered a recyclable material. When a HIMACS product reaches the end of its life cycle, the material can be recycled and repurposed, helping to reduce waste.

While there are always nuances to consider when it comes to acrylic surfaces and sustainability, LX Hausys, the manufacturer of HIMACS, is committed to environmentally responsible practices. You can read more in their Sustainability Report.

How many colour options are there?

HIMACS offers a wide range of colour options, with a diverse selection of different shades, patterns and finishes to choose from. This makes it great for a wide range of applications as it can be customised to meet most styles and design tastes.

HIMACS add new colours and finishes to the range regularly to meet ever-changing design trends and consumer preferences. If there’s something specific that you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’re confident we can help.

Corian vs HIMACS: Is HIMACS the same as Corian?

Both Corian and HIMACS are great solid surface options with very similar benefits. They’re both made from acrylic polymers blended with natural materials and are known for being versatile and durable while offering a seamless appearance.

The main difference between Corian and HIMACS comes down to the manufacturers. Corian is made by DuPont while HIMACS is produced by LX Hausys. Corian has been in the market for longer than HIMACS (it was first sold in 1971), so has established slightly stronger brand recognition, although the newer HIMACS is still extremely well-regarded.

Ultimately, the choice between Corian and HIMACS will often come down to personal preference, specific project requirements and the availability of materials. Both materials offer superb quality and a wide range of design possibilities, making them perfect for bringing your projects to life.
